Snow Build Up

I've been gettin alot of unwanted snow build up on my running boards, which isn't a huge problem in the nice fluffy powder but as soon as it heats up alittle bit it starts to pack in and turn into ice. I was just curious if anyone has any ideas or silly little tricks that will get rid of or atleast slow this build up down to a mangable amount.

One if the things that helps is to install the "gator grips". May be a different name, but is a grip plate the attaches to the running board and is like the grips of a 4 wheeler.
