So I was gonna buy another sled today but the "detailed" pics showed the tunnel was a little wrinkled, so I'm just gonna sink some time and money into my 95 ZR700. I want a better ride and being that it is kinda old, I was going to rebuild the shocks all around (send them out actually!) my mechanic told me they are rebuildable Fox float shocks. One of my concerns is that I might need to replace the springs, at least in the rear. When I sit on the machine, the snow flap is about an inch or so off the ground, and I have bottomed it out a few times without riding too aggressively, I weigh about 230lbs w all gear on, so I was thinking some stiffer springs might be in order. I like the idea of a little rake on it (high in the rear lower in the front). I'm also gonna put on new skiis w some aggreesive carbides, not sure of the right combo for skiis and track- i was thinking a 1.25" ripsaw w 144 studs. I know all of the knowledgeable guys out there prob have a good idea for what I should do. TIA.

If you can find one, a better/newer (97 to 02 TSL) skid will improve the ride/performance of that sled. This made a huge difference in my 93. Here is where I had mine rebuilt; hygearsuspension.com/index.html They can valve it stiffer if you want too.

Unless it's a bolt in procedure, I'm pretty screwed about swapping skids, my metal fabrication and manipulation skills are non existant. If it were fiberglass or plastic fab that's a different story- or better yet some custom paintwork now you're talking! Im gonna black out the entire sled, with maybe a few hints of either green or blue, or maybe some exotic combo of both.

I am with RJ.. I have that skid and had hygear rebuild mine. I also put in new rear springs. Rides like a new sled now! As far as the new skid, I think you just have to drill 2 new holes?

I am getting ready to put a 98 TSL skid in my 96 ZRT. Anybody got any advice that might save me some time? I have a set of directions from AC Chat that look pretty straight forward, just wondering if anyone ran into problems when they did their first swap.

as long as everything lines up pretty close swapping the skid is fairly easy. if you are changing the track too that will require removing the lug shaft and some of the chaincase. If you do not need to relocate the rear mount holes then.... put the forward bolts in first then i have used a ratchet or tiedown strap to compress the suspension a little and it helps when lining up the rear bolts. especially if you are doing this by yourself.

I am changing track too, but I have done that before. According to the directions I found I do need to re drill rear and front holes. I was just wondering if anyone has found the need for limiter strap adjustment, or anything like that after putting a longer travel skid in an older sled.

Installed the 98 ETT skid with rebuilt shocks in my 96, went flawlessly and rides like a new sled now.Definately recomend the upgrade to anyone with a pre ETT skid.

no doubt.. my 96 ZRT had horrible suspension. My 97 ZRT chassis/suspension is great (for the era). Glad you are happy with it. ZRT rider huh? Where you at?
