Tis the season and I am the first to post about trail conditions? Get on it people!
As you read on the drifters site I bet.. The C2 trail in berkshire past cross creek cabin is horrible. LOTS of deep open mud water and prickers have over run the trail. We need to do work up there so my advice is to avoid it for now.
Today EMTP579(dan) and I rode from my house in Berkshire to virgil, dryden, caroline, and back.
Left Berkshire on C2. There is a signing mix up on the trail across the cornfield that comes up on 38 by the railroad tracks. Don't know what is up there. Ground cover was 4-14 inches and not groomed. Fields were fair and very thin.
C5B from Berkshire to Virgil was alot of fun. The snow was great in most spots and covered the trees in a white blanket perfect for pictures. There was one or two spots where there were small downed trees across the trail that took care to go over. Another spot had some prickers hitting your sled pretty bad for 100 yards or so. Nothing major. Snow cover about a foot everywhere and a little more up higher.
We crossed rt392 on C5A and hit a ton of low snow and bumps. It sucked. It always does thru there for some reason. Must be the ground.
Took C2C into Dryden.
Arrived at VFW at 1 pm or so and they did not have the grill or fryers on so we had to wait for food. I have never had this problem there before. Food was just fine and cheap
Left VFW on C2C and uploaded little helmet cam video www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1BdsyWExUw
I took other videos of other trails but this was the smallest in size.
Tried to avoid hammond hill because the cross country ski thing we read about on the drifters website but it was impossible so as usual, we used extreme caution, went very slow, and gave every skier the right away and waved at everyone. There were only a couple sour grapes.
Took star staton to avoid ski'ers and left hammond at TK23 and got on S23A. Wow what a trail. That was VERY narrow and VERY tight in spots. So tight on a corner in there we did not know if we were going to make it. It turned and went up hill as tight as you could turn. There was over a foot of powder and no grooming. Can't get a groomer in there of course. I liked it. Man did that tire us out. By the time we got to Rt 79 in Caroline we were hot and tired.
At TK25 got back on C2B for a little bit and Got off at TK24 and headed down S23, took that till it turned into S23B. The signs got pretty confusing for both of us. It appears there are a couple trails with arrows that we had no idea where they went and could not tell from the map. Heck I helped clear those trails and I was confused ;D
S23B goes right down to my house so we were home.
Hope that report helps someone! Dan might do a ride report with pictures to go along with my write up since my SD card was in my helmet cam.
Oh, we also kept our gas receipts so I can turn them in and the club can get the taxes back.
