Well I have been reading a bunch of posts on other websites including SF, Dootalk, ArcticChat. The conditions aren't that great right now and are in pretty big trouble for tomorrow. The guy from the OldForgeSnow.com Snow Cam (South Shore Rd) sent me a message on Dootalk saying:
"i rode yesterday and it wasn't bad just the roads need snow. the trails have plenty of snow. the forecast looks bad for today and wednesday. i think this weekend won't be that great unless we get a good dumping"
So I am praying for the warm temps and rain to swiftly move through and hopefully the colder temps at the end of the week will bring snow. We went to Old Forge last year and had a wasted day because of rain. I would hope to not have any weather issues this year!
THINK SNOW!!!!!!!

Old Forge Snowmobile Trail Report February 11, 2009 | Filed Under Winter 2008-2009 | We are still in the warm stuff but it looks like we will be back to winter tomorrow. With the return of winter will also be the return of snow to the area. So don’t throw in the towel yet for the weekend as the weather can change very fast here in the north. Not so nice conditions can change to great conditions in a matter of hours.
Jimmy T took the cam out yesterday and you will see that there are still some great riding conditions out there. I went south this morning and I can tell you the some of the corners are worn down on the inside and other places are great. It all comes down to what Mother Nature brings us today and what Old Man Winter does tomorrow on how everything will turn out for the weekend. I’ll keep you posted………….
Well, I was looking at the site and this is what I found and from what the ride along web cam looks like it doesn't look too bad at all...some bare spots but nothing major and they're expecting below freezing temps and some flurries with a possibility of accumulation over the next day or two so I'm still pumped and believe things are lookin up....Either way we'll be there and it'll be awesome!!!! THINK SNOW!!!!

THINK SNOW!!!! I saw that too but that was from early yesterday. It was in the upper 40's all day up there yesterday and raining. It has been above freezing all morning so far on the webcam. I like Christy's reports but he is going to tell us it is good no matter what because he doesnt want people backing out. I think if it gets cold like they say it will late Thursday night into Friday it might be fine but I know they lost a lot. There is a guy on Dootalk who lives there and he said its not good right now. so we'll see. All we can do is hope for the best. Last year we got stuck in the rain for a day and half and after it got cold again and snowed it was pretty good. Hopefully this will make the base that much more solid if it gets cold fast. They are calling for single digits and chances of snow tonight through Friday. I havent heard of any accumulation predictions though.

Where are you guys getting your weather information? I can't find any website that is calling for any accumulations of snow. Weather.com is calling for cold temps with like 30-50% chance of snow tonight into tomorrow but do not say anything about an accumulation. They are in a flood warning right now. I also checked accuweather and they didnt say much either. It looks like the temps are dropping and that is a good sign. I just hope 2 days of warm temps and rain didnt do too much damage. None of the roads are covered right now and if it doesnt snow that is going to make it tricky up there with access to get to the trails and getting from the Old Forge trails over to big moose area. Both require some riding on the roads. Especially trail 5 and/or heading around and taking big moose rd. I hope what you guys are saying happens. I'm going for the expectations of worst case scenario so when I get there it will either be super exciting or I won't be that disappointed because I will be ready for it! lol.
Come on Snow!!!! THINK SNOW THINK SNOW THINK SNOW!!!!

I left home this morning, it was snowing so hard on the hill...large wet snowflakes accumulating on the ground ;D...of course this was on the hill in Virgil. City of Cortland was getting snow, just not as hard on the hill. As I drove into work, it changed over completely to rain by the time I reached Tully. I've been in North Syracuse all day again...rain, rain, windy, more rain.........hasn't changed over to snow yet, temps are lower but still rain. From Absolute Snowmobile Trail Report for Old Forge: Old Forge -- Zero Visibility By Magnum Thursday, 12 February 2009, at 12:39 a.m. The temperature is approximately 46 F degrees. Around mid afternoon on Wednesday, the rain started to fall and continued through early evening, with a temperature high in the mid 40's and the upper 40's on the lower elevation areas. At the time of this report, the rain was coming down pretty steady and thick fog was covering the area. Old Forge has approximately 6 to 28 inches of snow on the ground. The higher elevation areas like Stillwater have approximately 4 to 10 inches more. The lower elevation areas like Forestport have 10 to 20+ inches and Brantingham has 6 to 18+ inches of snow on the ground. These are estimated snow depths on average. Traffic in the area was a ghost town on Wednesday. Currently the snow is well saturated and there's pooling water on the trails. Tonight, I didn't ride because of the rain and frankly any rider that isn't living under a rock knew it was going to rain through early Friday morning and there isn't going to be much riding until possibly Thursday evening. The good news is there's still plenty of snow on the higher elevation areas and the majority of the lower elevation areas, North of Alder Creek, still have snow. Alder Creek is just South of Boonville. Gusting winds over 30 mph and snow is in the forecast by Thursday afternoon, with the temperatures expected to drop to the mid 20's by early evening. 3 to 6 inches of fresh snow are expected to fall by Friday. As the temperature drops, be alert to icy conditions. The rain is expected continue into Thursday morning, before turning over to snow by early afternoon, with a temperature high in the upper 20's. By Thursday evening the temperatures are expected to fall a little more to the lower to mid 20's and the snow is forecasted to continue with 2 to 6 inches of fresh accumulation. Friday is expected to be clear, with the temperature highs in the mid 20's. Saturday through President's weekend is expected to be clear, with a temperature high in the mid 20's. We'll see what develops.
