Well....we made it back, mostly in one piece....lol
First off, some genius (me) forgot the camera, and man was I p.o.'d, there was some awesome photo ops. missed....
We stayed at the Swing Inn Motel in Remsen, right on rte. 12., a nice place, but man are the rooms small!
So we get there Fri. about 1 or so, and we're all unpacked and unloading sleds getting ready to hit some trails when the fun begins.
(Clayton will love this, since he's witnessed the pre-ride antics of this person before)
My buddy Scott (jumpedit) tears down the motel driveway which is like a drag strip (but covered with ice) and goes into spin-dry mode at about 50 m.p.h., round and round and round he goes, where he stops only the track studs know....
Yep, with less than 5/10 on the tripmeter ~ upside down he goes, he wasn't hurt, but the orange chrome windshield suffered a bit of damage, and we laughed so hard it hurt. We found that EFI sleds run pretty well upside down in case anyone needs to know that info. ;D
After a bit of creative electrical taping on the windshield (which looked not so stylish) we headed out towards Forestport, and then on to Boonville. The trails were incredible....smooth, fast and pretty well signed. (signing gets better going north)
It was approx. 40 miles from the motel to the fairgrounds in Boonville where we had some chow (awesome) and took in the snowmobile parade which was amazing. I'd guess there had to be at least 500 sleds in the parade, everything from the newest stuff to Scorpions, Boa Ski's, Moto Ski's and beyond. It was really a site to see.
We decided to head to Forestport Station, through Boonville to get supper. Again the trails and R.R. beds were amazing.
Ate supper at Garamone's Restaurant, which is about 1/4 mile off the R.R. bed and worth the trip...the food is great.
Left there headed back toward Boonville and decided to stop at the White Lake Inn for a drink, the place was packed and is definitely snowmobile friendly. Left there heading back toward Remsen, via towpath trails which were again, very nice. Rode 'til about 1 a.m.
Saturday was pretty much a repeat performance, except we watched some pretty awesome ice racing at the Boonville Fairgrounds before heading to Forestport Station to get to the Buffalo Head Restaurant, which has some of the best Prime Rib you'll ever have. After chow we went out and just wandered around, and headed back to the motel, as the trails were REALLY beat up from all the sled traffic....We're talking rollers that kept you at a max. 20 m.p.h. pace.
The farther we got from Boonville naturally, the better the trails became.
We put on about 220 miles, had a ton of fun, and man is there snow up there.....feet upon feet of it!
We're thinking of making an over night trip back up in a few weeks....
I promise not to forget the camera ever again....shame on me....I'd have loved to show you all some of the things we came across.
Duane
Oh man, I almost forgot to add this....there were all sorts of sled raffles going on at the races....Scott (jumpedit) got tickets for a Mini Z that the Edge Hotel was raffling and......yup, he won that lil' sucker....he's got to head up this Sunday with his big smiled 6 yr. old boy D.J. to do the mug-shots etc. for the website and to pick it up....way cool!
