So Marissa and I drove up to Waverly from Philly Thursday night. A usual 4 hour drive ended up being about 6 hours! We drove through pouring rain from Philly til about Binghamton where it turned over to snow. It wasn't until about Johnson City and Vestal area where we hit some bad snow. It was coming down hard and the highway was completely covered and not plowed. By the time we made it to Owego it was no more than 20mph with the trailer in tow. We made it home about 1am.
We got up Friday morning and made it to the Owego DMV at 9:30 to register the JAG and my trailer. We headed out on the road from there about 10 or so and made it up to Old Forge around 2. We checked in and got unpacked. We had some issues with the JAG. It wouldnt stay running. It was pretty cold up there so I narrowed it down to not getting fuel because it would pop but not run. We took a hair dryer and an extension cord and heated up the carburetor and it ran fine.
By this time, Clayton was up there at the Country Club motel and made his way over to our room. It was about 4:30-5 when Marissa, Clayton and I went out for a late ride. My brothers and dad had some trailer issues and weren't going to make it up til later.
We headed out and rode for about 30 miles and then came back to meet Mike Joe and Dad at the motel. The trails were actually pretty good and not much traffic at all. By the time those guys got unloaded we went out for some dinner and went out for a long night ride and this time Duane (raceguy) came out and rode. He was staying at our motel as well. We rode from Old Forge out to Inlet and passed the Old Barn restaurant. Trails were really good for the most part. Trail 5 was bad early but we caught it right after the groomer. We stopped and had a drink in Eagle Bay and made our way back to the rooms around 2am. Clayton headed out because he was leaving in the morning.
We got up and rode out to the Hard Times Cafe for lunch Saturday. As we were riding my seat fell off. Yep- FELL OFF! The mount studs in the back are missing and it started flopping around. I stopped and it just came off! I have pics! Trails were still pretty good. They had good snow and temps dropped. It was -2 Saturday morning when we got up. We tooled around some of the OF trails and made our way back to the SNODEO to check things out. By this time there were a lot of people out on sleds. We went back to the rooms and relaxed a little. Marissa and I walked up to the shops downtown and came back for Dinner.
We then geared up for a night ride. They had fireworks at 6:15 and then we were off. We met Raceguy, his dad, another buddie and Jumped It at the FastTrac gas station and headed out of Thendara and rode up to Big Moose Station and got a drink. We then continued to tool around and just tried to get lost. We kept getting passed by all these hotdogs zippin' around out there. A group of guys passed us late and almost hit a few of us. One guy on a new polaris Dragon came right by me through a narrow bridge and was cruising. I was probably doing 30 and he came through just missing me and scaring the crap out of me, caught his left ski on the trail edge on the left side and started fish tailing hard and then flipped over the handlebars into the ditch! I sat there for a sec and then decided to be a nice guy and help him out of the ditch. bastard didnt even give a thanks and then took off. We should have left him there. We then continued on and rode up to Pete's Peak in the Hollywood Hills. Elevation was just over 2200 feet. Marissa hated me after that one. the trail was kinda rough. it was not groomed at all. That was the end of our night after riding back. We got up early Sunday and as we were packing up our stuff, some kid decided to jump a ginormous snowbank and wrecked into an F-350 that was parked. I wish IO had my camera for everyone to see because it is hard to explain. The snowbank was taller than the truck and there was atleast a cars length away from the truck. There were no sled tracks between the bank and the truck. The Sled was pinned under the truck just behind the front tire. It was atleast a 20 ft jump. I guess the kid said his throttle was stuck! yeah ok!
We packed up and checked out. We rode to Keyes Pancake house for breakfast before a short ride and the Snodeo at 1pm for the raffle drawing! No winners this year but thats ok. We headed back to the trailers and loaded up. We were on our way back by 3pm. We rode around 150 miles and took a bunch of pics and a video. It was all in all a great weekend. We didn't want to over do it because of Marissa's first time out but she rode like she has done it for years! I had a blast meeting a few of you guys and seeing some of you guys again! Hopefully we can do this again soon. I have some pics that I took but my brothers have more because I forgot my camera Saturday night.
