I am anxious to head up there and check out this report:
07:00 AM Monday December 8th 2008
Current temperature minus 10 degrees, clear sky. New snow at least a foot in the past twenty four hours.
Trail preparation and grooming operations started yesterday. Snow depth around the forest currently ranging from three to in places over four feet.[/b][/u] The process of opening and grooming of the trails is going to take sometime, and weather to co operate. Please be patient.
We will be using snowmobiles on ALL trails to begin packing in the trails, and to identify any water hazards. EVERYONE is being asked to take a moment, and pull any down branchs off the trails, as you are out and about. Once the trails are packed we will be going in with a roller, and begin building up the base.
Our big groomer (Tucker) began working on the main trails. It is a long slow process with the deep snow, and will take at least the better part of a week to get to all the main trails.
Groomed last night, with at least one pass were:
Wart Road
Hessel to Tail Trail
Tail Trail
Bargey from CCC Camp to Hawley
Hawley
Snowmobile packed were
Franks Fancey from Hessel to Bargey
Dog Leg
Dog Leg Extension
A attempt was made to begin rolling of some of the woodland trail, but still alot of water out there. With this cold, things should begin to turn around.
All users of the Forest are reminded to take along a friend when you are out and about. It is not only safer, it is more fun.
Please support our efforts and join Winona Forest Recreation Association.
