Hey Everyone,
I just figured I'd throw this out there, after 3 seasons, well 2.1 seasons since last year is tough to count...I'm switching back to my original stock exhaust on the Apex.
A few years back I upgraded to a Sno-Stuff Rumble Pack exhaust which shaved 12 lbs. off my sled and added a claimed 12-15 hp. The exhaust although not terribly loud by any means did have alittle more noticeable grunt when first getting started but after 6,000 rpm seemed to be just as quiet as stock. However, after my first ride last week with my dad, brother, sister in law and wife...I've decided to switch back to stock, I've never gotten any complaints from the exhaust but maybe I'm just getting older, but it's loud enough that it irritates me now.
It's not the most difficult job in the world although it does require some dismantling of the rear end as the mounts are under the tunnel and fuel tank so getting to them requires unhooking the rear suspension mounts and removing the seat as it is removed through the tunnel. I ended up breaking two bolts so had to replace them but am back in business and ready to ride.
Mike
Also, I'm planning on selling the exhaust so if anyone knows of anyone who may be interested just let me know. It fits 06-09 Yamaha Apex and Attak.

I would say it's more than a noticable grunt!

Well, my replacements exhaust clamps are still somewhere in "shipping" so my sled is still out of commission but hopefully I'll get the parts early in the week and be back in the show...I've seen numerous sleds out today on the local trails but some trails are still closed and people are still riding them.. ..and we wonder why we lose the privilege to ride in some areas. Either way, the trails have been beaten pretty bad in spots and there are many spots down to dirt, at least from what I can see at a few trail-heads. Also, I've put the exhaust on Ebay so if you or you know of anyone who is interested in a really good exhaust for an even better price pass along the info to them! Mike

Unfortunately no work for me today so I'm enjoying a nice cup of Kona Java and then heading outside to get the sled back together and depending on how I feel maybe a quick ride on some local trails or atleast just a trip to the car wash to get some of the road muck off.

Original Exhaust is back on, had to end up replacing a couple gaskets that I was hoping to get away with reusing but what can you do Sounds real nice, it seems that a nice little mouse family decided to take up residence within the pipes so when it fired up there went Mouse house all over the drive way...oops All back together and back from the car-wash, didn't get a chance to hit the trails just because it took longer than expected since I had to run to the dealership. Hope all is well with everyone else and can't wait to hit the trails again soon! Mike

The Sno-Stuff exhaust sold on E-bay over the weekend...
Young guy from Maine got one heck of a deal, $400 exhaust sold for $130 shipped to his door!!!
Good for him, not so good for me...but what can you do? I've won some like that so that's just the name of the game I guess.

mapex, not being a Debbie Downer here but, there is a big move, with Parks in the lead, to set up a nys standard fine for a non stock silencer. We are talking major/mandatory fines here with this. First offence is an arm, second offence is a leg and first born. Its not worth it bud. Go back to stock and stay stock. I have a feeling that non-stock is gonna get real expensive.

Not at all, I completely agree!!! I went through many stops with the Sno-Stuff exhaust over the past few season and all passed easily, most even without question as it's not much louder than stock at all especially when putting along or just idling. The main difference is just a small section of RPM where it just has a growl instead of a hum like the stock exhaust does. I do however completely agree with the changing of exhaust as some are so annoyingly loud that it's irritating on the trail, especially when stopped and you hear them miles away ripping down the trail.
My main issue is that I've rarely seen these stops, and with the law so "grey" about the noise testing that unless the ranger is prepared to test that they won't. Even most enforcement people know that a ticket just given without the proper testing will be thrown out if disputed. I don't understand this, I've ridden with many people who have had obnoxious exhausts but even they have said that they never get tickets, just a ripping about how if they don't get it changed the next time it will be ticketed. I am just citing what I've read from articles in magazines and what have you.
Either way, that's just me ranting on about the system alittle but I do agree with you and hope that the new regulations are followed through and testing and ticketing done.
