Given the warm up that is about to come, I took a vacation day and went up to Tug Hill. This would let me also ride during the week which is my favorite time to ride up there. I am so glad I did. Except for Pulaski area (who I now know had 2 groomers broken) all the trails were in great condition - most of the clubs groomed last night when the temps dropped and they were great and on the hill they got fresh snow. Down low they were hard and fast but little loose snow. Traffic was very low and I saw very few other sleds. I dropped at the Grist Mill and rode through Altmar and Williamstown on C5. This was good except for one small section where there were lots of blow downs. I took C-4 to Redfield which was as good as I have ridden it in years. Then I took C5 from Redfield and then headed toward Highmarket. Osceola was out grooming and things were great along C4, Camp 2, Camp 4. Highmarket for lunch, I was the only one in there when I got there and there were 6 people there when I left. I then headed toward Flat Rock, Montague, Little John and then rode around Winona - all great even on the bar loop. I did not realize that Pulaski had groomers down so I made a bad decision to ride through Pulaski that I regretted, but once I got through that it was great again. Back through Altmar to Parish. I decided to do a quick run down to Central square and d**n that section was as good as I have ever seen it. A great day.
I did quite a bit of picking up trees and large branches because they had 40 mph winds the night before. I also pregnant doged at some other people that got impatient because I was stopping to pick stuff up.
I ended up helping a Osceola grooming crew reconnect their drag that was ripped off the groomer when it got caught by a tree. They needed some grunt labor and I was happy to oblige. We blocked the trail for about 30 minutes and I was shocked no one else offered to help. Most just turned around. A few watched for a few minutes and then left.
All in all a great day with 185 miles of all kinds, beautiful weather, and not being at work. Too bad no one else was able to get off, but I like riding alone from time to time too!
Here is me behind the groomer:
Then I rode upon this after I picked up a sign that they hit:
Here they are back up and running:
Amazing Day:
Trails were mint:
No Thank you:
Plenty of snow!
