Today my 2001 MXZ 600 Adrenaline Standard died suddenly on the trail. A Friend of mine was driving it, I was on my other sled and it suddenly lost power and died on the trail. He said it sputtered a few times, but no big noise. He said it was like a plug suddenly fowled. I pulled the plugs PTO side was black and wet, the other side looked good.
I put in new plugs, there was spark to both, but it would not start. Poured a little gas down each cylinder and it wouldn't fire once. It still has 3/4 tank of gas. I blew on the gas tank to try to push some gas through to see if that was the problem, but nothing.
We towed it back to the road and a friend picked it up and now it's in my driveway.
It had new Boysen reeds and boots at the beginning of the season. Cleaned the carbs at that time and the compression was good at that time. It has 5700 miles on it.
Any ideas to check would be helpful.

That doesn't make sense. The sled had (after the new plugs) spark, gas.. and still would not fire. If a sled has spark, gas, compression it will fire as we all know.
If it had spark, and did not fire when you put gas in the hole.. that makes zero sense.

That is pretty strange...I'd check a few things, make sure it still has compression now, as you said it had compression at that time it could've thrown a ring, unlikely but possible...Secondly I'd check the exhaust (pipes, muffler or any other parts that the Ski-doo may have on it as I'm not familiar with them. But if any of that is plugged or has some sort of blockage it won't let any of the gases out and even with compression wouldn't fire, especially when its hot after it had already been running...Hope you find something and its just a 5 cent fix and nothing major...Keep us Posted!!!

So, I pull my dead sled into my nice, heated garage and I put the compression tester on the PTO side and pull. It starts right up on one cylinder after the second pull. Reading on the PTO side, 152 psi. I shut it down, confused, and and put the compression gauge on the MAG side, pull the cord and 155 psi on that side. Shut it down again, put in both plugs and start it up and it runs fine. I rev it a while on the lift and it runs great and idles fine. Then I notice a steady stream of gasoline running out of the top center of the airbox. I look around and theres a pulse line running into the airbox from the carburetors. At a steady throttle, no gas running, but at idle, a steady stream of fuel running from the airbox. Starts and runs fine, but I'm not going to drive it like this until I figure out what the problem is.

Scott, I have a line in to an acquaintance that recently retired from BRP in Canada whom worked in R&D for their sled engine program. This guy knows Ski-Doo from top to bottom, inside out. As soon as I hear back from him, I will let you know a.s.a.p.!

Scott, he let me a message over night. He said his first thought would be a stuck float on the PTO Carb. and suggests pulling it and cleaning it. I am off for work now, if I get more info. I'll pass it along to you later.....

Scott, he's positive that's your problem.....he says to make sure the needle and seat are not plugged w/ crap as well. Says to clean that carb. thoroughly and get out and ride! Let me know how you make out bud!

I pulled the carburators this evening and cleaned them. They were very clean, but I went through the process anyway. I did find a small piece of "fuzz" in the PTO side float bowl. It wasn't much, but that may have been the problem. Put it back together and it runs great and no more hanging idle.
Thanks for all the help!
