I've been doin alot of reading about trips to Old Forge and just that area in general, and I've came to realize that there are alot of little fees that you have to pay (trail fees and what not). some of which are $50-$60. Does anyone know of any other places that may not be as pricey to ride?

Connecticut hill is not officially open, allthough ride able. I was out today. We need more snow, the hills are ok, but when comming down you will hit some rocks. The lake, Little lake/ Kayuta Lake is froze over and there were a lot of sleds there over the weekend. Our club is having a "get to know your trails ride" this weekend see the www.horseheadssnowmobileclub.org site for time and dates. We are on Connecticut hill. Good luck with your web site. I'm new to NY, so I didn't realize this forum was for people so far south of me up here. Anyway, I live in the Syracuse (much more Baldswinville) area. The state trails are just down the road from my house (in Plainville to be exact). If you guys ever want to venture up this way, please feel free to email me (rrudeau@gmail.com). Can park a few trailers at my place, or venture a mile or two down the road to park at either of the two bars right off the trails.
Trails are free. I know maybe 20 miles, if not more (my speedo/odo cable broke) by heart now, and want to go deeper into the trails. The lack of someone to ride with makes me somewhat timid to go and get lost (my other sled blew up).
***********CLIFFS******************
Ever up in the Syracuse area and want free trails, email me. I don't "know" them persay, but more than willing to explore further than I've been.

Anytime there's a new place to ride, we're interested. Keep us posted on the riding conditions section for your area. Thanks, Rob

Well right now they're terrible Too much snow. But yesterday before this all started, they were beautiful. Started to get bumpy, but nothing huge. I think it makes it fun. The steep hill climb was starting to get worn down to dirt, but I'd imagine after today's storm that won't be a problem for a while. If anyone has a trail map, I'm right around Jack's Reef, if that helps pinpoint where I am in relation to the trails As I said, if you ever want to get a group thing going up here, I'd be more than happy to give directions, plan a route, recommend lunch spots, etc.

Yes I am being a bit silly! I sure find the name of this post interesting. They have a sign at the last entrance ramp to the Major Deegan (I-87) in the North Bronx just prior to entering Westchester counties City of Yonkers. It is a large green sign with an arrow pointing North and the only word on the sign is upstate. So if you live in the Northern Bronx which is the most northern part of New York City then everything North of it is upstate. They would say that I live way upstate. So I am driving to my camp 160 miles North West of my house Friday night to what I call central NY (Southern Cayuga county). I think contrary to what the New Yorkers say I live in Southeast NY. I agree that Old Forge Is in upstate NY but stayed at the Alder creek country club once and they tried to convince me that they are in central NY. So I ask Were do the people in Waverly say they live in relation to the rest of the state?

i would tell people who are not from NY that I'm from "UPSTATE NY" but i know that NY is a huge state. So I would say western NY on the PA border! or near the Finger Lakes!

On a more serious note I just wanted to share that I bought my place in Summerhill in 2001. I have been able to ride that area at least part of the winter every year since I bought it. The area trails are well marked and the clubs do a great job taking care of them. I can not always go to the west or south but am almost always able to head east as that area seems to get hit with more snow. For anybody that has not rode in Southern Cayuga, Cortland and Chenango county area it far exceeds the Old Forge /Tug hill area as far as I am concerned. It is also way safer as far as I am concerned. All three counties have many places to park for free. I am guessing that you already know that Tompkins county is great when they have the snow.

^ Them values don't show anything.. Latitude: (e.g., 40.0446) Longitude: (e.g., -76.4131)
Yours have extra decimals in them. I looked it up and took out the decimals. Your numbers bring me up into the arctic circle.
I am confused
